Liverpool have signed a prolific striker in Darwin Nunez this summer and club captain Jordan Henderson has told TalkSPORT he has already been taken aback by how good he is.

The 23-year-old made the switch from Benfica at the beginning of the window and has hit-the-ground-running after scoring in Liverpool’s Community Shield win over Manchester City last weekend.

Nunez also scored four goals in the second-half of Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Red Bull Leipzig and has clearly shown he will provide goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.

And the Uruguayan has certainly impressed his captain in Henderson and the England midfielder is expecting big things from Nunez.

Henderson taken aback by Nunez

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Henderson admitted that he has already been taken aback by what he’s seen from Nunez during pre-season.

He said: “I’ve been really impressed with him. He’s still a very young boy, but I’m seeing a lot of positive things, a lot of good things.

“I think he will give us something different as well up front. There’s a lot of potential there and he’s settled in, so hopefully he can start the season off in the Premier League really well.”

The Liverpool midfielder was speaking about Sadio Mane’s departure to Bayern Munich and admitted the team will miss the winger but has been impressed with the Reds’ transfer business this summer.

Like Henderson pointed out, Nunez will certainly bring something different to Liverpool’s attack and should fit in well to Klopp’s high-energy system.

The former Benfica man netted 34 times last season for the Portuguese side and will definitely bring goals to Klopp’s side.

But he is also a player who makes intelligent runs and causes havoc for opposition defences with his tireless running.

Henderson is clearly excited about what Nunez can bring to Anfield and off the back of an impressive start to his Liverpool career, fans will be eager to see more.

If Liverpool are to knock Manchester City off their perch this season and win the Premier League, they will need Nunez to fill the boots of Mane and get off to a flying start.
