Ally McCoist is now really worried about £64m Manchester United player

Despite a solid result and performance for Manchester United in the FA Cup last night, Ally McCoist did come away with some concerns.

Not too much can be taken from a comfortable win over Wigan Athletic, but Erik ten Hag will have still been pleased to see his side progress.

And whilst there were several promising performances, Ally McCoist was concerned with Rasmus Hojlund’s display.

The £64m striker wasted a number of chances in the game, and his strong work to get into the right positions was quickly forgotten.

McCoist was speaking on talkSPORT this morning and admitted his concern for Hojlund at United following last night’s misses.

He said: “He just looks completely out of sync at this moment in time in front of goal.

“I think he’s got to score the header, and I mean he must score that because it’s a good run, he gets in front and when you get in front all you’ve got to do is hit the target and it’s a goal.

“You’re going to need to be very unlucky for the ball to hit off the goalkeeper and not go in.

“His left-foot shot is a little bit unlucky but I also think he should react to the one that comes back to him and he puts it by the post.

“I think it’s worrying, I really do for himself and United. It’s a funny one as I’m watching him as an ex-striker and you actually want him to do well because of his attitude and the way he goes about it.

“But I’m just a little bit worried for him at this moment in time.”

Ally McCoist wasn’t impressed with Rasmus Hojlund’s United performance last night

Of course, there’s no doubt that Erik ten Hag will stick by his young striker.

And in another breath, McCoist would have probably backed Hojlund to come through this tough period.

But with their lofty aspirations and only the disappointing Anthony Martial to turn to on the bench, it is a concern for United.

It seems unlikely that ten Hag will pursue a new striker in January, but the arrival of a senior figure could benefit Hojlund.

As McCoist noticed last night, Hojlund is bearing the weight of a lot of expectation at United, even if he does have the ability to pull through.

And with experienced additions in mind, Chris Sutton has actually warned one player against a move to Old Trafford this month.
