Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli was asked to name the fastest player at the club and the Brazilian surprisingly claimed that it’s Nuno Tavares.

The Gunners have always had incredibly fast players in their ranks. From Marc Overmars, Nicolas Anelka and Thierry Henry to the likes of Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in recent years, speed has been integral to the way the North Londoners play.

Mikel Arteta was far from being the fastest when he was a player, but like his predecessors at the Emirates, he loves pace in his side too, and his current squad boasts a number of rapid players.

Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season

Nuno Tavares is definitely one of them, but we were surprised to find out that he’s the fastest.

Gabriel Martinelli: Nuno Tavares is Arsenal’s fastest player

The young Brazilian sat down for a quick segment called Uncut on the Premier League’s YouTube channel this week and he was asked a few questions from fans.

One of them was if he’s the fastest player at Arsenal. Our minds went to Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe or Martinelli himself.

However, the Brazilian quickly replied: “No. I am (quick), but it’s not me.

“I think it’s Nuno (Tavares). Nuno is really quick.”

TBR View:

Tavares is absolutely rapid and his dribbling is really good too. He has all the qualities to be a fantastic left-back, but there are multiple aspects of his game that he needs to improve.

The Portuguese full-back’s defending has been the biggest concern since the turn of the year. He has been hauled off at/before half-time twice already, and on Sunday against Leeds United, Mikel Arteta went with Takehiro Tomiyasu at left-back instead of hun.

That shows Tavares is not ready to be a regular starter for a club like Arsenal just yet, but it is important to remember that he’s still only 22 and this is his first season outside the Portuguese top flight.

With more time on the training ground under Arteta and more minutes on the pitch, Tavares will definitely improve, and the fact that he’s the fastest player at the club means Arsenal should do everything they can to help him develop into the top player he has the potential to be.
