Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Leicester’s James Maddison in recent days and journalist Alasdair Gold has shared what people at Spurs have told him about a possible deal for Maddison.
Spurs have had a busy summer so far as they’ve added six players to Antonio Conte’s squad as they look to equip the Italian with a capable squad ahead of the upcoming season.
But the club may not be finished in the market just yet as Tottenham have apparently liked Maddison for years. And the Leicester man would reportedly be open to joining Conte at Spurs.

What people at Spurs have said about signing Maddison
In the latest update, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that people at Tottenham have played down the possibility of signing Maddison this summer.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “Lots of people asking about James Maddison. Interestingly, Spurs really playing that down. Anyone we asked out on the tour about Maddison really played that down and said no, nothing happening there.”
So it seems for the moment that Tottenham are distancing themselves from rumours that they could move for the 25-year-old.
But Gold did confirm that Spurs like the player and he has been on their list of potential options for years.
“I knew that he was on their long list of potential attacking midfielders in recent years. They like him. They chased him before he went to Leicester as well. They like Maddison,” he added.

In terms of output, Maddison enjoyed his best year in the Premier League so far last season. The Englishman scored 18 goals and provided 12 assists in 53 games for the Foxes.
Since making the switch from Norwich City back in the 2018 summer window, he’s been brilliant for Leicester. After Brendan Rodgers took charge in February 2019, Maddison became a vital part of his success at the club.
TBR’s View: Maddison would fill the creative void at Spurs
While Spurs have a dynamic front three in Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski, they are lacking a creative midfielder. Conte has a brilliant option to choose from in the centre of midfield but he has no players in the mould of Maddison.
After seemingly passing up the opportunity of reuniting with Christian Erisken, bringing in the Leicester man would certainly make up for it. Kane is brilliant at dropping deep and providing creativity for Spurs but Maddison would be able to take that burden off him at times.
Conte’s side also lack an expert set-piece taker and the English midfielder certainly falls under that category.
