‘Insane’: Some fans wowed by individual moment from Everton star for his country
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was a rare positive last night for England in their draw with Scotland – and some Three Lions fans on Twitter went wild over one moment from him.
Gareth Southgate’s side crawled closer to qualification with a 0-0 draw at Wembley Stadium against Scotland on Friday night.
As a result, they’ll need to beat Czech Republic in the final match to top their group.
It was a game where England looked to be lacking a cutting edge, but opponents Scotland carried a threat going forward at times.
Pickford made one great save from Che Adams. In addition, he produced a memorable moment in the second half that had England fans raving about him on social media
The £30million Toffees goalkeeper launched a stunning pass from deep that dropped over the top of the Scotland backline into the path of Raheem Sterling. However, the attacker couldn’t make the most of the opportunity.
Here are some England fans discussing the Pickford through ball:
Pickford one of the first names in England XI
If you have to pick the few players that are nailed-on starters in the England team, Pickford is right up there.
His form towards the back end of the 2020/21 campaign with Everton was strong, so it looks like he’s carried that momentum into this summer’s Euros.
Also, something about Pickford in an England shirt makes him raise his game.
The 27-year-old showed the advantage of his distribution with his pass for Sterling because he’s always been good with the ball at his feet. But, most importantly, he’s started the competition with back-to-back clean sheets.
Therefore, Southgate can be content with how his team is shaping up defensively. But, it’s in advanced areas of the pitch there is an issue.
