David Raya hasn’t had the best of starts to life at Arsenal.
The Spaniard has made a number of mistakes since joining the Gunners, and there have been more than a few calls for Aaron Ramsdale to be reinstated as the north London club’s number one.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal aren’t losing faith in the Spaniard, in fact, it’s quite the opposite.
Speaking on the Men in Blazers Podcast, Romano states that Arsenal believe Raya to be the perfect solution to their goalkeeping situation at the moment, stating that they’re very happy with the deal they got on the £28m player.

Arsenal think Raya is perfect
Romano shared what he knows about the goalkeeper.
“The reality is that Arsenal believe David Raya is the better goalkeeper at the moment, they believe he’s a very modern goalkeeper, excellent with his feet. They think he was an incredible opportunity on the market to sign him on loan with the buy option. They will trigger the buy option, they see Raya as their number one for the future and they think he is the perfect solution,” Romano said.
What are they seeing?
It’s clear from what Romano is saying that Arsenal really rate Raya as a player, but we can’t understand what they’re really seeing from him to suggest that he’s this perfect goalkeeper.
Ok, he’s adventurous and he’s comfortable with the ball at his feet, but sometimes that’s to his detriment.
He gives the ball away more than most goalkeepers, and he’s been really rash as of late.
He’s not given away loads of goals at this point, but these errors are mounting up, and even his biggest fan would say that he’s been far from perfect.
However, it’s clear that Arteta sees things differently, and it sounds as though Raya will be Arsenal’s number one in the long term.
