‘In the last 24 hours’: Journalist shares what he’s now been told about Mac Allister and Liverpool

Brighton have denied any indication that they’ve had contact from Liverpool regarding Alexis Mac Allister over the past 24 hours.

Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing this potential move as rumours of Mac Allister moving to Anfield continue to heat up.

The World Cup winner is reportedly very much on the Reds’ radar, but Brighton are adamant that there is nothing to this story.

Indeed, according to Jones, not only have Brighton briefed that there has been no contact from Liverpool regarding Mac Allister, they’re saying that they don’t expect any contact either.

Brighton playing it down

Jones shared what he knows about Mac Allister and Brighton.

“A rumour that has been firm in the past few days is Alexis Mac Allister leaving Brighton and Liverpool,” Jones said.

“Brighton are really trying to play this one down in the last 24 hours. Briefings that there is no contact and that they’re not expecting any contact. I don’t know how clubs determine how to expect whether someone will call or not. They said the same about Cucurella pretty much and that didn’t go their way in the end.”

Close to their chests

This isn’t abnormal from Brighton.

The Seagulls aren’t the masters of the transfer market for no reason. They play the market very cleverly, and they often play their cards close to their chests.

As Jones says, the south coast club did the exact same thing with Marc Cucurella this time last year, and, as we all know, his move to Chelsea went ahead just days later.

It’s tough to know what’s true and what isn’t at this time of year, but make no mistake about it, just because Brighton are denying it doesn’t mean that Liverpool haven’t been asking about Mac Allister.
