Leeds United target Cody Gakpo has been tipped to leave PSV Eindhoven soon.

That’s according to NEC Nijmegen defender Ivan Marquez, in an interview with AS.

Marquez was asked about which Dutch-based players he thinks are going to be next to move across Europe.

The Spanish defender replied: “Cody Gakpo is already in the crosshairs of the greats and it won’t be long before he comes out.

“The PSV winger is good and fast. He perhaps lacked a little more level in European games, but he has the talent.”

Gakpo has been in phenomenal form for PSV this season.

The 23-year-old already has eight goals and six assists in only eight league games.

No player in the Eredivisie has more goal contribution than the Dutch international.

He’s certainly on an upward trajectory, and will almost certainly be going to the World Cup in November.

Gakpo tipped to leave PSV soon

The dominant winger is still on the radar of Leeds United, after they missed out on him in the summer.

A report from The Athletic suggested that Gakpo is still on Leeds’ wishlist in January and they could make a bid.

However, there’s going to be a lot of clubs interested in signing the prolific forward.

Dutch pundit Rene van de Kerkhof has already said that Gakpo could be ‘the revelation of the World Cup’.

However, he believes the 23-year-old can do better than the likes of Leeds and should be aiming higher.

Gakpo is likely to have a number of options on the table in January.

PSV will want to do their best to keep him, as he’s currently keeping them in the title race against Ajax and AZ Alkmaar.

However, he looks set to take the next step in his career, and a major league certainly awaits.

Marquez won’t be the last person to tip Gakpo to leave PSV soon.

The contest to secure his signature could begin before the World Cup even starts.
