Tottenham Hotspur loanee Tanguy Ndombele has come under some serious criticism following Lyon’s 3-2 win over Angers over the weekend.

The Frenchman, who still is Spurs’ club-record signing, just couldn’t make it work in the Premier League.

Every manager he worked under at Tottenham following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure didn’t fancy him and Antonio Conte made it clear in January that he wanted him gone.

Ndombele moved back to Lyon on loan and it seemed like a perfect move for him. However, things aren’t quite going to plan just yet.

Lyon fans were a happy bunch following their side’s 3-2 win over Angers on Sunday. However, Ndombele is one player who was heavily criticised by the French media.

French journalist Walid Acherchour said on RMC Radio, as quoted by Foot Radio: “Since the start, we haven’t had the impression of seeing players preparing to react to the intensity of a European game.

“The 3-2 against Angers is a happy result, because at the end of the match, when the ball was lost, we saw players looking at each other. There are really lazy people in this team.

“I’m talking in particular about Tanguy Ndombele, especially because he’s a player that I appreciate, and one that I have always defended, but this match against Angers, without the ball, it’s not possible to see that.”

Ndombele is almost guaranteed to return to Tottenham this summer, even though Lyon have an option to buy him.

The Frenchman is a hugely talented player, there’s no debate on that front. However, he just has to get his act together and find a way to perform consistently every single game.

It’s unlikely that Conte will even consider reintegrating Ndombele into his side in the summer, which makes a permanent move away from Tottenham the likeliest scenario.

It will be interesting to see where he’ll end up if he leaves Spurs but it really is a shame that it hasn’t worked out for him in North London.
