‘In advanced talks’: Fabrizio Romano has just dropped more bad news for Newcastle fans

It’s been a rollercoaster month for Newcastle United so far, to put it mildly.

The Magpies are on a three-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, and won their last game.

Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Leeds edged Eddie Howe’s side closer to safety.

Likewise, the Magpies’ January transfer window business has been up and down.

Newcastle began the month well by signing Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

However, a third signing has so far eluded them.

Newcastle have been heavily linked with Diego Carlos in recent weeks, but sadly it doesn’t look as though they’ll be progressing further.

Guillem Balague tweeted today that Sevilla consider negotiations with the Magpies “over”.

Now, it looks as though another target who seemed close to joining Newcastle is set to join someone else this month.

That player is Atalanta’s Robin Gosens, who reportedly agreed personal terms with the Magpies earlier in January.

However, the Germany international’s club apparently turned down Newcastle’s first offer.

Yesterday, Fabrizio Romano reported that Inter Milan were eyeing Gosens.

And in the last 24 hours or so, the Nerazzurri appear to have have leapfrogged Newcastle in the race for the 27-year-old.

Indeed, Romano says the parties are in “advanced talks” and negotiations are “progressing in order to complete the agreement immediately”.

With six-and-a-half days left of the January transfer window, there are bound to be many more twists and turns on Tyneside.

There could well be more signings over the line at Newcastle, but likewise, there could also be big disappointments.
