Crook says Newcastle have now agreed personal terms with 27-year-old

Alex Crook has told talkSPORT that he has heard from sources in Germany that Newcastle have already agreed personal terms with Robin Gosens, and a transfer could get done before the Magpies face Leeds this weekend.

Eddie Howe has two signings through the door so far. But the 1-1 draw with Watford on Saturday highlighted the need for greater reinforcements before the deadline passes.

Gosens is an intriguing target. He is certainly a player with a huge amount of quality. The Germany international has scored 25 goals and contributed 18 assists in Serie A. In total, he has had 50 goal involvements in 157 games for Atalanta.

It was recently reported that he is open to making a move. However, he has not played since September due to a hamstring injury. So it would be asking a lot of the 27-year-old to hit the ground running should he move.

Nevertheless, it appears that Newcastle are edging closer to a deal. While Crook suggested that a fee is still yet to be agreed, he did claim that he has been informed that terms with Gosens himself have been sorted.

“Sources in Germany suggesting personal terms between Newcastle and Gosens have already been agreed,” he told talkSPORT.

“They are yet to come to an agreement with Atalanta in terms of a transfer fee. But that’s one that could well get done between now and, not just the end of the window, but by the time Newcastle play again in the Premier League.”

Gosens worth the gamble for Newcastle with personal terms agreed

If Gosens can stay fit, he would definitely be worth the gamble for Newcastle. Matt Ritchie has been used on the left more than any other player this season.

But he has only provided two assists in the top flight. In fact, no member of the squad has managed more than three, with only three men contributing more than one.

Goals have also been a problem. Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson are the only players to have scored more than once.

Much may depend on the kind of fee Atalanta demand for Gosens. But having agreed personal terms, there is surely going to be a major willingness from Newcastle to get a deal done from here.
