Newcastle United earned a place in the next round of the EFL Cup with a dominant 4-1 win against Bradford City, and one performance will have pleased Nick Woltemade.
Eddie Howe’s men comfortably defeated the current League One leaders to earn a fourth-round match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Several impressive individual performances were recorded for Newcastle, and Woltemade played some more minutes for his new side from the bench.
While Newcastle’s £65million signing only had a small role in the game against Bradford, there was a significant positive for him to take away moving forward.

William Osula dazzled against Bradford City
William Osula was handed a rare start for Newcastle against the Bantams, and he certainly made the most of the opportunity.
He and Joelinton shared the goals between them with a brace each, proving that Newcastle have more than enough firepower in the squad.
Osula caused problems for Bradford throughout the fixture, showcasing his quality. The 22-year-old proved he’s ready for more opportunities in the Premier League as well.
| Match Stats | Osula |
| Accurate passes | 15/16 (94%) |
| Shots | 5 |
| Shots on target | 4/5 (80%) |
| Chances created | 1 |
| Recoveries | 3 |
Osula had 39 touches throughout the game as he tried to be as involved as possible, with nine of them being in the opposition box.
Osula has already scored for Newcastle this season in the Premier League, and this performance proved that he can cause problems when given the time.
Osula’s performance proves Nick Woltemade isn’t needed as a striker
Newcastle bolstered their attacking options this summer by signing Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, with the two men being brought in to replace the outgoing Alexander Isak.
However, with Wissa getting injured, there have been question marks over who would lead the line for Newcastle, with fans presuming that Woltemade would take up that spot.
While he scored in his Newcastle debut, TBR Football has revealed that Woltemade was signed as a number 10.
The expectation is that he will play in that role to link the play together, and Osula’s performance has shown that it’s possible to do that, as Howe can get the best out of his squad in that way.
With Osula leading the line until Wissa’s return, Woltemade can play as the 10, with Anthony Gordon out wide, which would be a strong line-up for Newcastle’s upcoming game against Arsenal.
