Liverpool might have left Old Trafford having lost to Manchester United but Sammy Lee felt there were some positives to take as well.

The Reds battled hard all game before eventually succumbing to a late goal from Amad Diallo. It means Liverpool’s hopes of four trophies in Jurgen Klopp’s final year are over.

However, there were some good performances on display again from individuals. One of which was young defender Jarell Quansah.

The 21-year-old has stepped up the plate recently and former Liverpool assistant manager, Sammy Lee, could not praise the defender enough.

Speaking on the Official Liverpool FC podcast, former assistant Lee was quick to point out the performance of Quansah.

“Immense, immense. I think the guy come in and for me, I don’t know if you agree, I think he was man of the match. I thought he was excellent. There were a number of players you could give that [man of the match] to but I thought he was immense. His forward contribution, pushing the ball forward and then creating that chance to get us back in the game,” Lee said.

Shining lights for Liverpool

They might not go on and win all the trophies they want but this Liverpool side is well set for the future.

The emergence of Jarell Quansah at the back has been a real plus-point for the Reds. Quansah, along with players like Conor Bradley and Bobby Clark, look the real deal already at the highest level.

Yesterday, despite conceding four goals and being on the losing side, Quansah showed what he is all about with a superb display alongside Virgil van Dijk.

As Sammy Lee says here in his comments, he was excellent, both defensively and in terms of using the ball going forward.

Liverpool, it seems, have saved themselves a fortune in the market by bringing Quansah through.
