‘I’m saying to him’: David Moyes now shares what Lucas Paqueta still needs to learn about playing for West Ham

West Ham United manager David Moyes recorded a very important victory against Brentford in the FA Cup yesterday.

Said Benrahma came back to haunt his former club as the Hammers won their first match since the start of November.

Speaking after the match to the club’s official YouTube channel, David Moyes was pleased with his side’s result.

The Hammers boss has been under pressure for some time now after a poor Premier League campaign.

West Ham are currently only outside of the relegation zone on goal difference.

It’s therefore no surprise that Moyes picked a strong side against Brentford last night, as they look to gain some much-needed confidence.

With Wolves and Everton up next in the league, Moyes will know his future at the club could be decided by his next two fixtures.

After the match, he admitted that summer signing Lucas Paqueta is still learning and adapting to life in England.

Signed for a club-record fee of £51m, Paqueta hasn’t had the immediate impact Moyes would have liked.

He showed glimpses of his ability while playing for Brazil at the World Cup, but hasn’t consistently impressed in claret and blue.

Paqueta is still learning – Moyes

Speaking about the 25-year-old, Moyes said: “From Lucas’ point of view, Lucas has great ability as a footballer, he’s given us different things.

“But there’s also bits that I’m saying to him, away from home at Brentford, away from home at Leeds United, you’re going to have to learn what the Premier League’s like.

“How tough these games are, and as you know, the conditions in the last two games have not been good, with the wind.

“I have to say the pitch here today was very, very poor which didn’t help.

“But look, they’re all adapting.”

Paqueta has spent his career playing in Brazil, Italy and France before arriving in England.

The English winter isn’t something he would have come across before, and understandably might take some time to adapt to.

The Brazilian is technically excellent, but will need to adapt his weight of passing and movement to these conditions.

Paqueta is still learning, not just about life in the Premier League, but life at West Ham too.

He admitted earlier in the season he sometimes struggles to communicate with his teammates.

The more time he spends in the team, the faster he will adapt.

Moyes will be hoping he can get up to speed quickly to help drag the Hammers away from a relegation battle.
