‘I’m excited’: Frank Lampard says ‘phenomenal’ 21-year-old is now ‘completely ready’ for Everton game tonight
Everton manager Frank Lampard has said that midfielder James Garner is ‘completely ready’ to play.
Garner joined the Toffees from Manchester United on deadline in a £15m deal.
The 21-year-old midfielder has yet to make his Everton debut despite being on the bench on four occasions.
However, Lampard has now said that Garner’s ready to play after going away with England’s under-21 side.
Garner featured twice for the Young Lions, and will be hoping to make his debut tonight against his former side.
The holding midfielder made two Premier League appearances for Manchester United, the last of those coming nearly three years ago.
Garner has now been given a fresh opportunity to make an impact in England’s top flight.
Lampard: Garner is ready to play
Lampard addressed Garner’s fitness ahead of Everton’s next match, saying: “James is ready, he’s completely ready.
“When he came he was very honest, he wasn’t fit for the Liverpool game in terms of being 100% match-fit.
“So, we had to work him, he went away with the Under-21s and played a game and now he’s completely ready.
“He’s ready to go, he’s training and I’m excited to see him playing and get him in the team.”
Although Everton fans haven’t seen Garner on the pitch yet, he’s already been making an impact on the training ground.
Frank Lampard has already said he’s ‘really happy’ with what he’s seen from Garner in training.
A report from The Athletic suggests that Everton coaches believe Garner has ‘vast potential’ but can also make an immediate impact.
The ‘phenomenal’ midfielder has a job on his hands breaking into Everton’s midfield.
New signings Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye have teamed up with Alex Iwobi well in the middle of the park.
However, with Garner now ready to play, Lampard will be keen to see what impact he can make at Goodison Park.
