'I'm always looking for him': Emerson says he only wants to pass the ball to one Tottenham player

Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal spoke to Sky Sports this week about his role in the team under Antonio Conte.

The Italian’s system heavily relies on the wing-backs. Emerson, as a result, is a very important player for Spurs now, and he has admitted that he’s always aggressive when he’s attacking the opposition.

The Brazilian has played nine times for Tottenham so far since his summer move. He is yet to pick up an assist, but he has a very clever plan to change that in the coming weeks and months.

Emerson revealed that his first thought as soon as he receives the ball is to pass it to one Tottenham player.

Emerson: I always look to pass the ball to Harry Kane

Asked about his role in the side, Emerson revealed that he has to be aggressive. He claimed that he always has his head up when he’s in the opposition half – just so that he can pass the ball to Kane.

The Brazilian told Sky Sports: “Everyone in the team has an important role in the system we are playing. I have to be aggressive when I’m attacking.

“Going forward I always try to look for Harry Kane.

“But, when there is a goalscorer like him, he can be marked by one or two defenders. It’s not easy but I’m always looking for him.”

Well, if you need a goal, all you’ve to do is pass the ball to your best goalscorer. That’s exactly what Emerson is trying to do and it should pay off sooner rather than later.

Kane hasn’t been his usual self this season. The transfer saga in the summer may have impacted him, but we all know he’s a world-class player and it’s only a matter of time before he gets back to his very best.

It will be interesting to see if Kane and Emerson can form some sort of a partnership under Conte. If the Brazilian puts it on a plate for the Englishman, the ball will find the back of the net more often than not, but as he explained, it’s not always easy.
