If reports are true, Spurs could now land 'phenomenal' forward for just £10m, was £35m two years ago - TBR View
Tottenham Hotspur may have an impressive front line right now, but there’s always scope to strengthen further.
Antonio Conte could certainly do with cover for both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
Now, a player Tottenham have been linked with long-term could potentially cost as little as £10million this summer.
Spurs were reportedly trying to sign Marcus Thuram prior to Euro 2020.
Indeed, RMC Sport claimed Tottenham were in advanced talks with the Borussia Monchengladbach ace at the time.
Journalist Rudy Galetti tweeted in June last year that the France international had a value of at least £35milion.
Thuram’s contract at Borussia-Park expires next year.
Therefore, this summer will be Gladbach’s last opportunity to get a relatively good sum for him.
And Spurs have the chance to sign a talented young player for a bargain fee.
Admittedly, Thuram has struggled somewhat this season, missing numerous games through injury.
But last season, the 24-year-old showed his class with 11 goals and 12 assists from 40 Gladbach appearances.
And if anyone can unleash a player’s full potential and get him back to his best, Antonio Conte can.
The signings of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur split the Spurs fanbase’s opinion.
But it didn’t take long for both to become fan favourites at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Conte would no doubt get Thuram firing on all cylinders once again.
What is Marcus Thuram’s style of play?
As with most Bundesliga players, the official league website does a great job of providing analysis.
“Thuram may be slightly taller than (Anthony Martial) and possess a bulkier frame, but that makes him no less dangerous than his fellow Frenchman of Guadeloupean descent,” they wrote.
“Indeed, he has made France’s Euro 2020 squad ahead of him.
“Quick, direct and with the upper body strength to brush opponents out of the way, the sight of Gladbach’s new man running at you is enough to make any defender reconsider their profession.”
“Crazy” and “phenomenal”
Dennis Zakaria praised Thuram in 2019 after he scored a late winner against Roma in the Europa League.
“It was so important that Marcus scored that goal today,” said Zakaria, via Bulinews.
“He is a great guy, a little crazy maybe, but what he brings to the pitch is phenomenal.”
