Arsenal have a crucial season ahead of them, and as such must strengthen accordingly.

The Gunners were much improved last term, compared to their woeful 2020-21 campaign.

However, Arsenal still failed to get over the line in terms of Champions League qualification.

Nonetheless, they qualified for the Europa League, and so they’ll need to increase their strength in depth.

One area Arsenal must bolster is the midfield, with more quality needed.

And according to one recent report, the Gunners may be about to get a superb addition in midfield.

Italian outlet Calciomercato has claimed that Arsenal are closing in on Yves Bissouma.

The Gunners have been linked with the Brighton star for quite a while now.

Indeed, Arsenal have reportedly maintained contact over Bissouma since the turn of the year.

And just last weekend, the Mali international sent the rumour mill into overdrive.

On his Instagram story, Bissouma shared an Arsenal fan’s post saying that he needed to be signed at all costs.

“He’s a real great player”

Bissouma has established himself as one of the most talented midfielders in the Premier League.

Graham Potter has labelled the 25-year-old “incredible” and Ian Wright called him “sensational“.

Declan Rice – himself one of the Premier League’s best midfielders – has also lauded Bissouma.

“(Brighton) have always been a top side,” BT Sport quoted Rice as saying earlier this year.

“Every time we’ve played against them, the way they pass the ball, Potter’s got them playing unbelievable football.

“And to be fair, Bissouma – there’s a lot of talk about him as well, he’s a real great player.

“When you play against him you see what he’s like.

”You see a holding midfielder but he wins the ball, he’s strong in the tackle, can bring the ball forward, finds passes, got a little flairy side to him.

“And obviously he’s had a solid season again this year, and he did last season as well, he’s real consistent.”

With his contract expiring next year, this is the last chance Brighton have of getting a sizable fee for Bissouma if he doesn’t pen fresh terms.

And while Arsenal are apparently targeting Youri Tielemans, Bissouma would definitely be a superb shout for the Gunners.
