Newcastle United remain interested in signing Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma
Newcastle United are still interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma, but it may not happen this summer.
According to a report from 90min, the Mali international has informed Seagulls officials that he is looking to move on from the Amex Stadium ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The 25-year-old is into his fourth season in the Premier League after making the move from Ligue 1 side Lille.
The all-action midfielder has become one of Graham Potter’s best players for the south coast club, but it seems he is ready to embark on a new challenge.
Yves Bissouma likely to attract interest this summer
With Brighton’s number eight ready to move to a bigger club, the Seagulls’ best chance of having their valuation met for the star is this summer.
Bissouma’s contract expires next June and clubs will be hoping to sign the Malian for a cut-price deal in the summer.
Newcastle have already watched the holding midfielder and were linked with a move for Bissouma in January.
But with the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa interested in a move for Bissouma, Newcastle may have to act swiftly to avoid missing out on the talented midfielder, who Ian Wright previously branded “sensational” (via Wrighty’s House Podcast).
Back in January, The Athletic reported that Brighton wanted around £50million for the star, but that valuation may have dropped come the summer.
With Brazilian duo Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton becoming vital parts of Eddie Howe’s midfield, Bissouma could be the perfect anchor to compliment the Selecao duo.
The Athletic report that midfield is ‘not viewed as being the most pressing position to upgrade’, but Newcastle do ‘retain a long-term interest’ in Bissouma.
Although other areas in the squad are seemingly seen as more important to improve, Newcastle do face the possibility of missing out on Yves Bissouma if they don’t firm up their interest this summer.
