If Miguel Almiron leaves, Newcastle could launch last minute move for ‘outstanding’ £50m player

Newcastle United could launch a move to sign Everton’s Amadou Onana if Miguel Almiron leaves the club this month.

That’s according to The Telegraph, with the outlet claiming that Newcastle would use the funds from the Miguel Almiron deal to sign a new midfielder.

Almiron could complete a surprise switch away from Newcastle before the end of the window.

The 29-year-old is attracting interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab, with claims emerging yesterday that a ‘provisional’ deal has been agreed to sell the winger for £21 million.

While a fresh report states that a price is yet to be agreed, talks between Newcastle and Al-Shabab are set to continue over the coming days.

And if Almiron does head out the door this week, Newcastle could push to sign Amadou Onana.

Newcastle could move for Onana if Almiron leaves

The Telegraph claims that reports suggesting a deal has been agreed for Almiron to leave are ‘inaccurate’ at this stage.

But there is a chance that the Paraguay international leaves before the end of the window, with the Magpies looking to use the funds in their bid to sign a new midfielder.

The sale of Almiron could lead to them pushing for a deal for Onana or a different midfield target.

Morgan Gibbs-White is also on Newcastle’s radar but Nottingham Forest won’t entertain a sale.

Onana has attracted interest from a host of top sides since his switch to Everton back in the summer of 2022.

The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all said to be keen on the £50 million-rated midfielder.

It’s no secret that Newcastle are in desperate need of reinforcements in the middle of the park following Sandro Tonali’s ban earlier this season.

Whether or not Newcastle can tempt Everton into selling one of Sean Dyche’s key players remains to be seen. The Toffees still face a fight to stay in the Premier League after their 10-point deduction last year.

Onana is an ‘outstanding’ talent and has been a key feature in Dyche’s side this season.

If Newcastle could pull off a late deal for the midfielder it would be a huge boost for Eddie Howe, who has struggled massively when it comes to injuries to key players of late.
