Newcastle United have reached an initial agreement with Saudi side Al-Shabab over a deal to sell Miguel Almiron to the club this month.

The Magpies have been trying to add to their squad this month but are on the wire when it comes to FFP restrictions. This has led to reports of potential sales, with Kieran Trippier among the players being linked with a move away.

However, somewhat out of nowhere this morning, Newcastle have now reached an agreement with Al-Shabab to sell Miguel Almiron instead.

The £21m forward is apparently open to the move as well and talks are ongoing over finalising the move.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, a ‘provisional agreement’ has been reached for the transfer and while the deal is not done yet, Almiron is ready to make the move to the Middle East.

Selling Almiron is likely to give Eddie Howe some sort of wiggle room in the market this month.

Injuries have hammered his team recently and a new midfielder is high on his wanted list.

A number of names, such as Kalvin Phillips and Amadou Onana, have been linked with a move to Tyneside.

Almiron moving on is big news

This is a big deal for Newcastle and it will draw attention to the club once again for different reasons.

Firstly, the sceptics will suggest that the Saudi owned club are effectively being bailed out here by the club selling a key player to a Saudi Pro League club.

How much truth in that there will be is open to debate.

On the footballing side, for Eddie Howe this is an interesting one. Almiron has done well but nowhere near the same level he reached last season and if this move allows a few signings this month, then Newcastle will be happy.

Quite who the new faces will be with just over a week of the window left, remains to be seen.

But Almiron going could have a domino effect and ensure a busy end to the window.
