If Kiko Casilla leaves Leeds United, soon-to-be leaving Tottenham man is perfect for Marcelo Bielsa – TBR View

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that they will be releasing goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga on a free transfer this summer – and Leeds need to take a look. That is because, Kiko Casilla could be offloaded given his enormous wage – a wage far greater than expected for a back-up goalkeeper.

The North London club confirmed that Gazzaniga – a one-time Argentina international – would be released come June 30th. He joins ex-Leeds man Danny Rose in leaving Spurs on a free transfer, and interest in the 29-year-old goalkeeper is likely to be quite high. He is the ideal back-up goalkeeper.

Joining Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino, the South American stopper has only ever played 37 times for Tottenham. During the last season, he joined Spanish side Elche on a season-long loan – but only managed eight appearances and is now on the lookout for a new club. Leeds is ideal.

Why are Leeds ideal for Tottenham stopper Gazzaniga?

Firstly, the connection between manager and player would see Gazzaniga be tempted. Bielsa, a legend of Argentine football, would surely want to come and play for Leeds because of the club’s manager. Secondly, Gazzaniga would not just be third choice, but second choice at Leeds.

Casilla has endured a tricky couple of seasons at Leeds. Nigel Martyn recently told LeedsUnited.News that Casilla could depart. His wages are far greater than what you would expect from a back-up goalkeeper – with Illan Meslier easily first choice. Landing Gazzaniga on a free is ideal for Leeds.

His wages would be so much cheaper than Casilla. At Tottenham, he earns just £20,000-a-week (Spotrac) in wages and he might even accept a smaller pay packet at Elland Road. Selling Casilla and replacing him with freebie Gazzaniga just makes utter sense, especially as he is younger, too.
