‘If I was manager’: Pundit says he wouldn’t be having £47m Man Utd played if he was Ten Hag

Bruno Fernandes is one of the most polarising footballers on the planet right now.

For some, Bruno Fernandes is a creative genius who can turn a game on his own, but, to others, he’s an overrated prima donna who’s too quick to point the finger at others rather than himself.

Speaking on Off The Ball, John Giles has shared his verdict on Fernandes at Manchester United, and he says he wouldn’t be having him at all if he was Erik Ten Hag.

The pundit concedes that Fernandes is a talented player, but he thinks he’s not a great leader and he doesn’t inspire any sort of confidence in his teammates.

Giles wouldn’t be having Fernandes

The pundit gave a scathing view of the Manchester United captain.

“No, well I wouldn’t have Fernandes if I was manager at all. He’s a talented player, but I don’t think he inspires confidence in the team, he spends too much time moaning at the referee rather than getting on with the job that needs to be done. I don’t see him as a leader at Manchester United or for anyone else for that matter,” Giles said.

Not a leader

Fernandes is, of course, a fantastic footballer, but Giles is right, he’s not a leader.

Think of the greatest leaders in football history, they’re the types of players to rally the troops when the chips are down, but Fernandes is more of a throw-your-toys-out-of-the-pram kind of player.

Fernandes has a huge responsibility now as the captain of Manchester United, but he’s really not taking on that role in the way he should.

As Giles says, Fernandes moans at referees too much and doesn’t inspire much confidence in his teammates, and that’s the opposite of what a good captain should do.

The £47m man could do with improving on that front, it has to be said.
