Anton Ferdinand has named the Premier League boss he wants if David Moyes leaves West Ham United at the end of the season.

There remains a question mark over the future of David Moyes at the London Stadium. The Hammers beat Brentford 4-2 on Monday, with Jarrod Bowen scoring a hat-trick.

However, that was the Europa Conference League holders’ first win of 2024. And they had lost their previous three games, conceding 11 goals and scoring none.

Anton Ferdinand wants Eddie Howe if David Moyes leaves West Ham

Some in the media have leapt to the defence of Moyes and claimed that he deserves nothing like the criticism he has received from fans. But it is hard to not have sympathy with the supporters who have grown tired with watching their side play under the Scot.

Speaking on The Take On, Anton Ferdinand admitted that he is not Moyes In or Moyes Out. But he did suggest who he would like to see replace him if West Ham are looking for a new manager this summer.

“So if he was to go at the end of the season, which, if he does or if he doesn’t, I’m not massively like he’s got to go or whatever, I just think needs to go on his own terms. If he was to, I don’t see Eddie Howe being at Newcastle next year because they don’t get in the Champions League. I think they’re going to change and get somebody else. I’d take him,” he said.

Hammers fans entitled to ask what another manager could do with their team

Some think West Ham fans are being greedy. They sit in the top-half of the Premier League. And they won a European trophy last year. There is no question that Moyes has done a brilliant job.

However, why should West Ham fans wait for the team to slide down the table before they make a change? Ultimately, they will not want to see the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus and Bowen move on because the club did not show enough ambition.

On paper, Moyes is doing a good job again this season. But the supporters are entitled to ask how much better someone else could do.

Eddie Howe has taken a team into the Champions League. He has a track record for making players better. So if Newcastle do let him go in the coming months, there are going to be many clubs who will want to appoint the 46-year-old.
