Liverpool put in an incredible performance against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Reds won 3-0 at Old Trafford, and the usual suspects were getting their due praise.

Mohamed Salah made headlines for a trademark performance, while Luis Diaz was hailed for his brace.

However, speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has reserved some special praise for Dominik Szoboszlai and the role he played in Liverpool’s first goal.

Szoboszlai ducked out of the way of Mohamed Salah’s cross to allow Luis Diaz to nod home, and Wright believes this was an underrated bit of play from the Hungarian.

Ian Wright praises Dominik Szoboszlai

Wright praised Szoboszlai for the part he played in Liverpool’s first goal.

“People don’t understand how well he has done to duck out of that. The way he has ducked out of it, you could see how close he was. When you’re moving at that pace, it was really good,” Wright said.

“People will not appreciate that someone who could’ve headed it where he was just left it. In the moment he recognised that he has a better chance of putting this in than me. Szoboszlai would’ve had to do something special to get it on target.”

Dominik Szoboszlai was so clever

As Wright says, this was a seriously underrated bit of play from Szoboszlai.

It would’ve been so easy for the Hungarian to try to get the glory himself in a big game, but he had the awareness and the selflessness to leave this for Diaz.

Given the trajectory of the ball, it would’ve been easy for Szoboszlai to head this chance over the bar, but he made the right decision, and Liverpool went 1-0 up.

Ultimately, that was the platform for Liverpool to kick on and thrash their rivals in what will go down as another famous and memorable win at Old Trafford.

Szoboszlai deserves a lot of credit for his part in Luis Diaz’s opener.
