Ian Wright lauds 'absolutely perfect' Chelsea star after 2-0 win over Arsenal
Ian Wright has lauded Romelu Lukaku for his stunning performance in a 2-0 win for Chelsea over Arsenal yesterday. He scored the Blues’ first goal and also had a hand in the build-up to the second, with Wright raving about him on Match of the Day 2.
The Gunners were no match for Chelsea. Given the level of their performance at the Emirates Stadium yesterday, they look every inch title contenders.
Lukaku was a big-money signing for Chelsea during the summer. After scoring 30 goals for Inter last season he has checked in at Stamford Bridge for £97.5 million.
He immediately began repaying the faith shown in him by Thomas Tuchel. Lukaku tapped home his first goal in Chelsea colours, following some good work by Reece James.
Wright was ousted in the top 20 all-time list of Premier League goalscorers by Lukaku and told Match of the Day 2 just how impressed he was with the Belgian.
The ex-Arsenal star told Match of the Day 2: “He’s the perfect piece for Chelsea and he could have scored three against Arsenal. For me, he’s absolutely perfect for how Thomas Tuchel likes to play and that’s why I’ve tipped Chelsea.”
Could Lukaku lead Chelsea to Premier League glory?
If yesterday’s performance was anything to go by then the rest of the division had better watch out. Yes, it was against Arsenal. Yes, Arsenal are poor. But, Lukaku terrorised the Gunners and made life hell for both Rob Holding and Pablo Mari during the 90 minutes.
The 28-year-old is in his prime and after just one game, Chelsea look to have got themselves a fantastic player in Lukaku.
Tuchel won the Champions League last season and this season the remit will be slightly different. The Frenchman will know a title challenge is within Chelsea’s grasp and he’ll want to run Manchester City close.
With Lukaku in devastating form, you’d be a brave soul to back against Chelsea winning another Premier League crown this season.
