Ian Wright makes bold prediction about Ademola Lookman before facing Arsenal in Champions League

In between Arsenal’s tricky Premier League away trips to Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, there’s also a difficult tie to navigate against Atalanta on Thursday.

Arsenal travel to Italy in the Champions League, playing on a day which they’d probably thought they’d left behind after returning to Europe’s elite competition.

Either way, Mikel Arteta and his side will be facing Ademola Lookman and co in their first continental test of the season.

Interestingly, Arsenal were linked with a move for Lookman this summer – a player who is thriving in the Serie A after leaving English football.

Such has been his progress, a price tag of around £51m is now being quoted for Lookman – who has more than one potential suitor.

Ian Wright thinks Arsenal linked Ademola Lookman will leave Atalanta soon

That being said, Ian Wright has now been discussing Lookman’s progress on the ‘Wrighty’s House’ podcast ahead of Thursday’s date with Arsenal.

Wright was amazed at how far Lookman had come since his days at Charlton – a winger he thinks will move on from Atalanta fairly soon.

Wright said: “Oh gosh, did you see his first assist with the way he just flicked it? So good.

“It’s really beautiful football, I’m so pleased for him. Yeah, he worries me.”

He continued: “But we’ve got Ben White on that side, if he’s going to be on that side. And you know what? I’m pleased for him.

“His journey, where he’s gone, what he’s doing now, you could see a big move, you could see a move for him.

“I’d love him to stay there, he’s been so good at Atalanta. The way he’s worked up, all the way from Charlton, all the way to where he is now.

“You’d believe that Atalanta is not his final destination in his mind, as great as it can be for them.

“And it’s not disrespectful, but like he’s got a level of playing now where you can see why people would say, I could, yeah I could use him.”

Raheem Sterling ready to make his full Arsenal debut

Of course, after deciding against a move for Lookman this summer, Arsenal executed a bargain deal for Raheem Sterling.

The England international played his first minutes for the club in the win over Spurs, offering a brief glimpse of his talent.

Sterling could make his full Arsenal debut vs Atalanta – Arteta is expected to make up to three changes for the second of three away trips in seven days.

Arsenal’s title-push perhaps fell short because they didn’t rotate sufficiently last season.

And with better strength in depth this term, Arteta will need to trust all members of his squad to maintain Arsenal’s high standards.
