Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side will now face a very tough trip to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Of the two teams, Arsenal have enjoyed a better start to the new season than Eddie Howe’s side.
After five games played, Newcastle are languishing down in 13th with six points, whereas Arsenal are just behind Liverpool in second.

Looking forward to the game, Theo Walcott thought Arsenal would beat Newcastle, and the former Gunners forward even predicted that Gabriel Magalhaes would score.
St James’ Park hasn’t exactly been a happy hunting ground for Arteta in recent years, but with Alexander Isak now a Liverpool player, perhaps Arsenal will fancy their chances.
Ian Wright and Roy Keane disagree on the result when Newcastle face Arsenal
That being said, pundits Ian Wright and Roy Keane gave their Newcastle vs Arsenal score predictions on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast.
The pair were pitching their prediction along with Jill Scott against Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville.
And although Wright originally predicted that the game would be a 1-1 draw, Keane ended up locking in a 2-1 Newcastle victory on his own accord.

After hearing Wright’s original 1-1 shout, Neville was quick to remind his former Arsenal rival that his side would then be seven points behind leaders Liverpool, providing they won against Crystal Palace.
Replying to Wright, Neville said: “That would mean you’d be seven points behind [Liverpool].”
Then reconsidering his position, Wright replied: “You know the thing is, we have to win it so I’m going to change, I have to change, I have to go for Arsenal to win.”
Unfortunately for Wright, Keane wasn’t in agreement, and he ended up choosing a narrow win for Howe’s side.
Anthony Gordon is ready to face Arsenal after suspension
Much to Arsenal’s peril, Anthony Gordon will be available for Newcastle following his three-game domestic suspension for a straight red card against Liverpool.
Gordon actually returned in a 4-1 win over Bradford City in the EFL Cup this week, and he’ll be raring to go against Arteta’s men.
Of course, it’s interesting to recall that Arsenal were interested in Gordon throughout the summer transfer window.
Arteta’s side eventually opted to sign Eberechi Eze to boost their attack instead, but Gordon is a player who’s admired at the Emirates.
But now Jurrien Timber will be tasked with keeping the left winger quiet on Sunday, unless Howe plans to use Gordon centrally.
Newcastle now have Nick Woltemade at their disposal, and he would be the obvious candidate to play as Howe’s number nine.
But perhaps Arsenal could be surprised by facing Gordon in a central role, a player with a point to prove.
