'I worry about him': Journalist says defender Newcastle reportedly want to sign makes so many 'mistakes'
Journalist and South American football expert Tim Vickery has delivered his verdict on Diego Carlos amid rumours claiming that Newcastle United are close to signing him.
The Magpies are in desperate need of a new central defender. Eddie Howe’s side has been linked with a whole host of names already, but it looks like the Brazilian from Seville is the one who’ll soon make his way to Tyneside.
The Daily Mail revealed that Newcastle are hopeful that a deal to sign Carlos will be completed this week, before the game against Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday.

Vickery has now issued a stern warning to Magpies fans by claiming that Carlos looks better than he actually is.
Tim Vickery: Newcastle-linked Diego Carlos makes a lot of mistakes
The journalist told TalkSport: “It was a couple of years ago that a Brazilian journalist, based in Spain, brought my attention to Diego Carlos and said ‘I think this is the best Brazilian centre-back in Spain, have a look at him’.
“My conclusion, and he won the Olympic gold medal as well, is that we may be dealing with a centre-back who may look better than he is.
“I worry about Diego Carlos. There are moments when he looks classy, but there are lots of mistakes and wild man things.”
TBR View:
Carlos is definitely not the calmest player out there, he has a mistake in him. The Brazilian’s defensive partner Jules Kounde, who is one of the best in La Liga, makes him look a lot better than he’d otherwise be, but that doesn’t make him a bad player.
The 28-year-old will still be a big upgrade on the defenders Howe currently has at his disposal at Newcastle. He is in the prime years of his career as well and if the Magpies boss can get him to settle in quickly, he could prove to be a fine signing.
It will be interesting to see how Diego Carlos will fare in the Premier League if he does join Newcastle. It is slightly unfair to expect him to be flawless from the very first game, but if he does hit the ground running, the Toon’s hopes of survival will go up considerably.
