Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe believes fans will really take to Bruno Guimaraes once they see him play regularly.

The Toon signed five new players in the January transfer window, but none of the others has created as big a buzz around St James’ Park as Guimaraes.

The Brazilian made his debut against Everton last night, and although he was only on the pitch for a minute, every fan enjoyed watching him in the famous black and white.

Howe, unsurprisingly, was asked about Guimaraes after the game and he believes Newcastle have signed an outstanding player.

Eddie Howe: Newcastle fans will fall in love with Bruno Guimaraes

The Magpies boss said about the Brazilian to BBC Sport: “He’s a technician.

“You saw from his cameo that he’s confident in his ability, which is great, and I think he is going to be an outstanding player for the club for many years.

“It will take him time to get to the pace of the Premier League but he is not afraid to mix it.

“I think the fans will really take to him.”

Guimaraes is a fine talent, nobody can deny that.

The 24-year-old was absolutely incredible in Lyon during his time there. He was among the best midfielders in Ligue 1 and there’s every chance he’ll reach the same level in the Premier League as well.

Howe and everyone at Newcastle believes Guimaraes will be a top player for them but it may not happen immediately. He has only just arrived in the Premier League and he may need a bit of time before he can adapt to the physicality of the English game.

Once that happens, he will surely be a star and Newcastle fans will love him even more than they already do.
