‘I really do’: Tim Sherwood thinks West Ham should appoint 48-year-old manager if David Moyes goes

Marco Silva would be a really good option if West Ham decide to part company with David Moyes this summer, with the Hammers a bigger club than Fulham.

That is the view of Tim Sherwood, who was speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast following reports that West Ham are monitoring the Portuguese.

Obviously, it has largely been a difficult season at the London Stadium. West Ham do have a Europa Conference League semi-final coming up. However, it is still mathematically possible – though incredibly, incredibly unlikely – that they could be relegated from the Premier League.

For some fans, the time has come for a change to be made. David Moyes has done a brilliant job for the large majority of his tenure. However, things have looked stale at times this season. And it would surely be wise to act before it is too late.

Sherwood backs Marco Silva for West Ham

Reports from the Daily Mail this week claimed that West Ham want Marco Silva. And he has a £6 million release clause in his deal with Fulham.

Silva has done a superb job at Craven Cottage. And Sherwood clearly feels that he should move on if the chance presents itself in the summer.

“I think the rumour has appeared because he has a £6 million buy out in his contract. They can’t stop him leaving, if they pay that. Without disrupting Fulham, it’s a bigger club – West Ham. Huge support. I think he’s a very good manager, I really do, and if they want to change David Moyes he would be a good option for them. Good brand of football, progressive, what the West Ham fans want to see,” he told the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.

“I think there will be a change there at West Ham, whether they win it or not.”

Silva will surely be wary of leaving Fulham while he is doing so well. He won plenty of plaudits for the work he did at Watford. But speculation over his future had an impact on their fortunes.

And by the time he ended up at Everton, his stock had fallen considerably. That was obviously a big move for the 45-year-old. But he was ultimately unable to live up to expectations – even if the job he did looks better in hindsight.

The work he has done at Fulham has seen Silva rebuild his reputation. So it is going to take something impressive to lure him away over the coming months.

West Ham definitely have the potential to leave him with food for thought, at least.
