'What I see every day': Michail Antonio says West Ham teammate is just 'unbelievable' in training

Michail Antonio has praised ‘unbelievable’ West Ham teammate Declan Rice and said there is far more to come.

Rice has captained West Ham for most of the season and established himself as a key player for England as well.

There has been transfer talk around Rice and it was reported this week that he has been offered an eight-year deal worth £200,000-a-week at West Ham.

Antonio was asked about that on Sky Sports but was keen to point out how good he thinks Rice is and said he will respect the midfielder’s decision, whatever he does next.

Antonio says Rice is ‘unbelievable’

“Dec has not even touched his best yet,” said Antonio of Rice.

“He is unbelievable. What I see every day in training. He’s got so much more to do and so much more to learn.

“But what he is doing right now, he’s up there with the very best in the Premier League already.

“Whatever Dec wants to do, I’ll be happy for him. I love him as a player, I love him as a person. His decision is his at the end of the day.”

Rice has already been hailed as better than Fabinho by Jack Wilshere earlier this season and he is surely among the contenders for Premier League team of the season.

What he does next will be interesting. Surely no player would sign an eight-year contract. Harry Kane has found the issues with the six-year deal he signed at Spurs in 2018.

But there is perhaps not an obvious clear next step, certainly not while his pricetag – completely understandably – remains so big.

He could play for any team in the league, it is just whether they would commit to a British record fee and whether Rice would see them as a step up from West Ham.
