Gary Neville was present at the Emirates Stadium last night and he noticed what a few Arsenal fans did after everyone else had left.

The Gunners put up a brave fight against Liverpool last night. Mikel Arteta’s men were arguably the better side in the first half and it can be said that they were unlucky to concede the goals that they did.

An error from Aaron Ramsdale gave Diogo Jota his goal, while a weak clearance from Bukayo Saka allowed Andy Robertson to set up Roberto Firmino just eight minutes later.

That killed the game for Arsenal but Neville noticed that a few Gooners stayed back and made it clear after the game that they are fully behind Arteta and the lads.

Gary Neville: Arsenal fans made a statement at the Emirates yesterday

Speaking on The Gary Neville podcast, the man himself said: “There were fans that stayed behind at the end, and not everyone did, but there was a big ‘Arsenal, Arsenal’.

“There was an aggressive Arsenal shout I just heard before I came on this podcast and that was like a send-off.

“It was a [statement to say] ‘we’re with you at Villa on Saturday’.

“I know only 2,000 (fans) can probably go, but there was a message to say ‘we’re okay with that tonight, you gave your all and were playing against a great team’. I think that’s important.”

TBR View:

Arsenal fans have often overreacted after a defeat over the years but it was completely different last night.

Every supporter at the Emirates could see the progress under Mikel Arteta. The Gunners look a completely different side now and they really did take the game to Liverpool in the first half yesterday.

The show of faith from the supporters, especially after a defeat at home, could prove to be massive for Arsenal’s young squad.

It could give them the push they need to bounce back and that could make a massive difference as we enter the business end of the season.
