‘I hope…’£20m Tottenham player suggests he’s played his last game for the club

There were few tears shed at Tottenham when they secured another loan move away for defender, Djed Spence.

Spence joined Genoa in the January window after a disastrous spell with Leeds was cut short by Daniel Farke, who complained of lateness and other disciplinary issues with Spence.

Now over in Italy, Spence is hoping to build a career for himself in Serie A and prove to those back in England that he can do the business at a high level.

And speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Spence has hinted that he might be completely done at Tottenham now, with the idea of a long stint in Genoa on his mind.

Djed Spence could leave Tottenham for good

Speaking to the Italian media outlet, Spence suggested that moving to Genoa long-term is something that interests him at the moment.

“I knew they had already been looking for me last summer. Now, the right conditions were evidently there to close the operation. I’m satisfied. It’s an important opportunity. I hope that this can be the beginning of a long journey in a club that is growing,” Spence said.

“I found a nice team and a pleasant city. I settled in quickly. They supported me in everything. Everyone in the locker room has helped. There’s a nice atmosphere here. Soon I will start studying Italian. For now, I preferred to concentrate on football.”

New beginnings

Well, Tottenham will wish they never splashed out £20m on Spence in the first place and looking back, his little dig at Neil Warnock now seems a bit silly.

However, this is a chance for Spence to rebuild and get away from the pressures of the PL while still playing a high standard of football.

Italy is a good league and Genoa are a good set up where he can hopefully flourish. Obviously, he’ll need to impress to make the move permanent but if he’s learning the language and settling, that is a good start.

For Spence’s own sake, you do hope this move works out for him.
