Peter Schmeichel was left baffled after what happened to Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus at the Etihad Stadium today.

Arsenal picked up what could prove to be a vital point at Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

It was a cagey 90 minutes of action as both sides struggled to create clear-cut opportunities in the final third, which ultimately led to a goalless draw.

Mikel Arteta will likely be satisfied with a point after Arsenal’s recent record at the Etihad. But the Spaniard will be disappointed with a lack of cutting edge in the final third.

One man who had a couple of opportunities in the first half was Gabriel Jesus, who was replaced by Leandro Trossard in the 72nd minute.

The Brazilian fired one effort at Stefan Ortega but put in another tireless shift against his former side.

But as he was replaced by Trossard, sections of the home supporters could be heard booing their former player.

Schmeichel baffled after Jesus reception at City

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Peter Schmeichel admitted he couldn’t understand why some City fans decided to boo Jesus.

“I don’t get why the Man City crowd are booing Gabriel Jesus, he didn’t ask to leave,” the Manchester United legend said.

“It’s just what happens. They should be applauding him. He did a lot here.”

How many titles did Jesus win at Man City?

It’s difficult to disagree with Schmeichel here as Jesus was a player who was an important part of Guardiola’s squad during his time in Manchester.

The Brazilian scooped four Premier League titles at the Etihad and filled in across the frontline.

Despite the fact that Jesus has thrived at Arsenal, the 26-year-old ultimately left City to become a regular starter under Arteta.

Jesus would have likely remained in Manchester had he been guaranteed a starting role, so the reception at City did seem a bit harsh.

With that being said, applause from sections of the City crowd could also be heard as the forward left the pitch.
