Report: What Gabriel Jesus will earn at Arsenal and what eventually convinced him to leave City

Arsenal finally appeared to seal the signing of Gabriel Jesus last night, as the Gunners agreed a fee with Manchester City for the striker.

As was widely reported on Friday evening, Arsenal have agreed to pay around £45m to Manchester City for Jesus, bringing an end to their long-winded search for a new forward. For Edu and Mikel Arteta, it will feel like a huge victory in the market, with Jesus being their number one target all along.

And according to 90Min, there were a couple of big reasons why Jesus finally agreed to sign for Arsenal.

First, it’s reported by 90Min that Jesus will actually become Arsenal’s best paid player. He’s set to earn around £250k-a-week and it’s claimed City actually offered him a new deal worth not too much less than that. Secondly, a desire to play down the middle is said to have influenced Jesus’ decision massively.

It’s claimed in 90Min’s report that Jesus was keen to explore new opportunities, one of which included playing as that central striker, which he will do under Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal have made a number of signings this summer and could now push on to try and sign Leeds winger Raphinha as well.

TBR’s View: Arsenal Finally Get Their Man In Gabriel Jesus

The points about wages and the added point about playing down the middle are interesting – if not completely unknown – points here.

In a way, it puts big pressure on Jesus to hit the ground running from the off. Being the main earner is one thing in itself, but being put in as the main striker from the off also brings pressure as well.

Jesus will be aware of this though and he comes from a highly expectant club in City anyway. This was the one Arsenal wanted to get done, and it seems they’ve finally got their man.
