‘I don’t expect’… Journalist is now hearing something different about Ivan Toney and Arsenal

Ivan Toney continues to be strongly linked with a move to Arsenal.

The extent of these links change depending on who you’re asking.

Some are steadfast in their belief that this deal will happen in January, others name Arsenal as strong favourites, while others state that the player himself wants to sign for Arsenal.

By-and-large, the suggestion has been that Toney could well be heading to the Emirates this month. However, according to Alex Crook, that isn’t quite the case.

Speaking on TalkSPORT (21/12/23 7:58AM), the journalist has shared his latest information on Toney, and he’s led to believe that Toney won’t be moving in the January window.

Toney won’t be moving

Crook shared what he knows about the striker.

“Well, we know there’s interest from Arsenal and to a lesser extent Chelsea. But I think it’s going to be a difficult deal to be done in January.

“We’ve mentioned before that Brentford are confident that Ivan Toney will sign a new contract, probably with a release clause and I think it’ll be interesting to see which clubs try to activate that release clause in the summer.

“I don’t know if Arsenal are going to spend the type of money it would take to prise Ivan Toney away from Brentford in this transfer window.

“They spent big in the summer, there’s the argument that if they had Ivan Toney then you would make them favourites for the Premier League title.

“They might feel that bearing in my mind they’re spreading the goals around they’ve got enough in their armoury to see them through until the end of the season anyway.

“I don’t expect Ivan Toney to move in January, I think it would take a massive bid to persuade Brentford to sell.

“Ivan Toney maybe feels that he owes Brentford at least until the end of the season because of course they haven’t been able to use him for the first half of the season because of his betting ban.”

Fair enough if Toney stays

If Toney does decide to stay at Brentford in January we really can’t hold that against him.

The striker may well feel some semblance of loyalty to the Bees. After all, they did give him his big break in the Premier League and they stuck with him throughout this whole betting fiasco.

Toney has been treated well by the west London club, so perhaps as a gesture of goodwill, he will sign that new deal with a release clause that allows him to move in the summer.

There are plenty of conflicting reports about Toney’s future and potential move to Arsenal, and this is certainly a situation to keep an eye on.
