‘I could be wrong’… Paul Merson thinks Ange Postecoglou will drop £25m Tottenham player against Wolves

Paul Merson has named the player he believes will drop out of the Tottenham Hotspur forward line when Spurs face Wolves this weekend, as he backed Heung-min Son to start.

Tottenham received a huge boost against Brighton last time out. Heung-min Son made his return after being away on international duty at the Asian Cup.

The Tottenham captain set up the 96th minute winner for Brennan Johnson. And it is no surprise that Paul Merson is backing the forward to now start against Wolves this weekend.

Paul Merson thinks Dejan Kulusevski could be dropped

Merson previously thought that Brennan Johnson may be the man to drop out of the side for Son. However, speaking to Sportskeeda, the pundit now believes that it may be another player who makes way this weekend.

“I have a strong feeling about this game – I can see it being entertaining with bags of goals. With Son heung-min ready to come back into the starting XI, it remains to be seen who misses out from the front three. I could be wrong, but I think Dejan Kulusevski will be the one to make way, with Timo Werner and Richarlison playing alongside the South Korean in attack,” he said.

Lots of options for Ange Postecoglou

It does feel as though Dejan Kulusevski has not been as impressive in recent weeks. It has now been two months since the £25 million Swede provided a goal or assist in the Premier League.

He does so much more than that for the team. Kulusevski appears to be someone who works incredibly hard for the side. But Ange Postecoglou now has an embarrassment of riches in the final third.

Some would say Werner has not been good enough since joining Tottenham in January. Meanwhile, Johnson is waiting for that moment where everything clicks. So Postecoglou, as Merson notes, could easily go down another route.

One thing that does seem for certain is that Son does indeed need to come back into the starting lineup for what could be a tricky game against Gary O’Neil’s side.
