Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte says he is really worried about the injury issues troubling young Oliver Skipp.

The 21-year-old wasn’t really expected to play a big part for Spurs this season but he has been brilliant. He has arguably been Tottenham’s best midfielder this term and Conte is desperate to have him back.

Skipp last played in the Premier League back in January in Spurs’ 2-0 loss to Chelsea. Tottenham have lost four out of the seven games they have played without him, which shows just how important he is.

Conte was quizzed about the youngster’s injury and the Italian was far from happy.

Antonio Conte: I’m really worried about Oliver Skipp

Speaking ahead of Spurs’ game against Manchester United on Saturday, Conte said, as per Football London: “For sure I am worried because he started with a groin pain and then we are talking about two months that he is out.

“I don’t have so many midfielders, there is Bentancur, Hojbjerg, Skipp and Winks, to miss for a lot of time is not simple and I have to hope not to have an injury for our midfielders. It happened, Bentancur had problems and we only had two midfielders.

“This is a problem, I am a bit worried, in my mind, in the mind of my players, there is the desire to come back very soon. In this moment, if you ask me a forecast about his return, I don’t have an answer.

“For this reason, I am really worried, we are talking about a player who was playing very well and we need another midfielder.”

TBR View:

Conte had initially claimed that Oliver Skipp’s injury would only keep him out for a week or so. Now, it has been over six weeks and it really is a huge cause for concern.

The likes of Hojbjerg, Bentancur and Winks have done well at times and Conte has no choice but to go with two of those three. However, without Skipp, Spurs lack a certain balance in their side.

The 21-year-old was one of the biggest reasons why Spurs didn’t lose a game in Conte’s first few league games. The Italian just wants to have him back fit, but even he doesn’t know when that will happen.

That is bad news for Tottenham fans.
