Hungarian media describe ‘even bigger problem’ Arne Slot is facing with Milos Kerkez at Liverpool

Milos Kerkez has been criticised in the Hungarian media following his display in Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester United.

The Reds have now suffered four defeats in a row in all competitions for the first time under Arne Slot after Man Utd beat them 2-1.

Liverpool fans’ doubts about Milos Kerkez during and after the clash were loud and clear, especially given his role in Bryan Mbeumo’s 62-minute goal.

It is not just supporters who have had some harsh words for the full-back post-Manchester United, though.

Hungarian media question Milos Kerkez’s partnership with Virgil van Dijk

Hungarian outlet Mandiner have reported on Liverpool’s last loss and, when doing so, questioned Kerkez’s understanding with the rest of his team’s backline.

They wrote: “The left winger did some hair-raising things at the back this time (a reckless, horror pass from inside his own penalty area almost resulted in a Manchester goal), and his passes were also not good.

“An even bigger problem is that his lack of understanding within the defence with the team captain
Virgil van Dijk – who also did not have a good game – is still visible.”

Kerkez was sensational against Arsenal back in August, but for the most part, he has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.

It’s a huge concern for Slot, whose Liverpool team are leaking goals and have issues all across the backline.

Milos Kerkez isn’t the only problem in Liverpool’s defence

Micah Richards is worried about Ibrahima Konate, singling out the Frenchman for the ‘individual errors’ he keeps making this season.

Meanwhile, Conor Bradley has been criticised, and with Jeremie Frimpong suffering from injury issues and low form in 2025/26, Gary Neville thinks the Liverpool youngster has wasted his chance to impress.

The persistent defensive issues have seen Slot using one of Kerkez’s international teammates, Dominik Szoboszlai, out of position at full-back at times this term.

In stark contrast to their comments on Liverpool’s left-back, Mandiner were very kind in their assessment of Szoboszlai after Man Utd.

They wrote: “Arne Slot’s team’s losing streak to four games in total. After the third consecutive league defeat, a flood of criticism poured in on both the manager and most of the home players – practically the only exception to this was Dominik Szoboszlai, who was once again the best of his team, and many of the fans describe him as a light in the Liverpool night’.”
