Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Callum Wilson from Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

That is according to The Daily Mail, which has noted Wilson’s stance on a potential exit from Newcastle.

So, what has been reported about Callum Wilson? Let’s take a look.

Atletico have made an enquiry about signing Wilson on a loan deal. Newcastle have turned it down. The Premier League club, though, could sell the striker if they get a suitable offer.

The Daily Mail has noted that Wilson, who, according to Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, is “a hugely important part” of the team, “would be open to talks with Atletico should the Magpies accept a deal”.

The 31-year-old striker is on the sidelines at the moment and will return to action before the end of January. He has 18 more months left on his contract.

My View: Newcastle United should keep Callum Wilson

In my view, Newcastle United should not rush to sell Callum Wilson in the January transfer window. I think that the Magpies should keep the striker.

Yes, I know that Wilson has had injury problems, but the 31-year-old is still an important player for Newcastle when he is fit and available.

The England international has scored seven goals and given one assist in seven starts in the Premier League for Newcastle so far this season. That is impressive.

If Newcastle sold Wilson in the middle of the season, then Alexander Isak would be the only recognised centre-forward in the team for the rest of the campaign. The Sweden international has been linked with Arsenal.
