Howe issues verdict on Dan Burn after Newcastle debut display

Eddie Howe has told Newcastle United’s official website that he thought that Dan Burn was excellent in their massive victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Magpies have moved a step closer to getting themselves out of danger. They are actually one of only two teams in the Premier League to have won all of their last three games.

Their latest victory came against the Villans. Kieran Trippier got the game’s only goal with a deflected free-kick during the first-half.

The game was also significant as it saw another January signing make their debut for the club. Dan Burn started for Newcastle following his move from Brighton in the final hours of the window.

And it proved to be an amazing day for the 29-year-old. He was absolutely superb for Newcastle. His display saw him named man of the match by Gary Neville.

And Howe seemed to be just as impressed as he shared his verdict on Burn’s showing in the fantastic win.

“He was excellent. Very calm, He added composure to the back-line. Aerially very good, he swept up a lot of dangerous situations in a calm and composed way,” he told Newcastle’s official website.

“So nice for him being here. I know how much the club means to him so it was a great moment.”

Dan Burn deal could be an underrated masterstroke from Newcastle

Clearly, Trippier has been the catalyst for their recent turnaround. Meanwhile, Neville praised what he saw from Chris Wood in the game against Villa.

But the very early signs suggest that the deal for Burn could prove to be an absolute masterstroke. He brought real composure and organisation to the Newcastle defence against Villa.

The difference in the Newcastle backline since the start of the window has been significant. And Burn more than played his part in the win against Steven Gerrard’s side.

There are plenty of hurdles still to clear for the Magpies. But their recent results, the improvement within the squad and the incredible atmosphere at St James’ Park makes it incredibly difficult to imagine the club being anywhere near the bottom three when the campaign concludes.
