How West Ham really feel about sacking Graham Potter after Crystal Palace clash and Nuno talks

TBR Football understands that West Ham United have spoken to Nuno Espirito Santo and Gary O’Neil this week as they gear up to part company with Graham Potter.

As TBR Football revealed earlier this week, former boss Slaven Bilic is a frontrunner for the West Ham job, but the Hammers are now considering other options.

This includes Nuno, who left Nottingham Forest earlier this month, and former Hammers midfielder O’Neil, who left Wolves last season.

Potter and West Ham United now face Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, and the match could have big implications for the manager’s future.

Exclusive: West Ham plan to part ways with Graham Potter if they lose to Crystal Palace

Sources have told TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, that a defeat to Crystal Palace would likely signal Graham Potter’s exit from the London Stadium.

Having now spoken to potential replacements, the Hammers are preparing to make a change in the dugout should the result against Palace go against them.

Speaking about the situation, Bailey told TBR Football: “West Ham are talking to other managers, and this tells us in recent history this is really bad news for Potter.

“It happened with Lopetegui and Moyes before him. Hammers’ sources are not pushing back; they can’t, as people know it is happening. It’s going to take some effort for Potter to remain in charge of the club.”

The East London club find themselves sitting in 18th place following what has been a shocking start to the new campaign.

West Ham produced a shock win to defeat Nottingham Forest, however, they have lost their other three matches, including two home defeats.

The Irons were beaten by their bitter rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, last weekend, which saw many supporters head for the exit at the London Stadium around the hour mark.

Now, one final bad result against the Eagles and West Ham could become the second team to change managers this season.

How Nuno Espirito Santo’s Premier League record compares to Gary O’Neil’s

Nuno appears to be the frontrunner to land the West Ham job right now, and his record in the Premier League is actually quite impressive.

The Portuguese coach has enjoyed impressive spells at Wolves and Nottingham Forest, but at Spurs, he proved rather underwhelming.

O’Neil is also formerly of Wolves and did a good job at Molineux of steadying the ship, before he was replaced by Vitor Pereira.

He also started well at Bournemouth before eventually his team ran out of steam, and Bournemouth brought in Andoni Iraola.
