How Savinho feels about leaving Man City for Tottenham without any European football

Savinho has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter since arriving at Manchester City.

The Brazilian signed in 2024 but has remained a second-choice option during Pep Guardiola’s last two years at the club.

That may well change once Enzo Maresca takes over, but Fabrizio Romano has now shared that the forward is open to joining Tottenham Hotspur in the coming window, even though they finished 17th in the Premier League.

Savinho open to Tottenham transfer despite poor 2025/26 season

Savinho was a Tottenham target this time last year, but after Man City failed to get a deal for Rodrygo done, they kept the 22-year-old.

He went on to make 24 Premier League appearances in 2025/26, but most were from the bench and saw him notch just 821 minutes of league action.

Now, with Spurs avoiding relegation, they are back in for the South American, and Romano has claimed the player is open to the move ‘even without European football at Tottenham’.

He said: “Tottenham last summer wanted to go all in for Savinho, sent two official bids to Manchester City, but Man City decided not to proceed. It’s a story from August 2025. City were considering going for Rodrigo from Real Madrid and let Savinho go to Tottenham.

“Then the Rodrigo deal was not possible and also City decided to trust Savinho and so they offered him a new contract and Savinho [in] September put to paper and sign a new deal in Manchester City. But this season for Savinho at Man City has not been easy. He wants to play on a regular basis, and now Tottenham are prepared to go for it.

“Roberto De Zerbi and people at Tottenham want Savinho. So now they are prepared to reopen negotiations with Manchester City. Savinho is also appreciated, from what I understand, by Newcastle. So it’s another club appreciating the player but now Tottenham prepared to open again talks with Manchester City.

“Let me say if this summer Tottenham and City reach an agreement, Savinho will be a Spurs player because the player is quite open to the move even without European football at Tottenham.”

Will Man City replace Savinho?

Manchester City are expected to be active in the transfer market this summer, but at present, their priorities appear to be away from landing a new winger.

With Bernardo Silva leaving on a free, the Sky Blues are looking at a new central midfielder.

On that front, it is thought that Maresca wants to bring Enzo Fernandez to the Etihad Stadium after previously working with the Argentine at Chelsea.

Elsewhere, amid a lack of depth at full-back, Man City are in pole position for Givairo Read, who could cost over €35m.
