Enzo Maresca is yet to be confirmed as Manchester City manager, but he already has plans to raid his former club.

Maresca will take over at Man City in the summer once Pep Guardiola, who takes charge of his final game on Sunday, departs.

The transfer window does not open until June, but the ex-Leicester City boss has already decided he would like to bring Enzo Fernandez to the Etihad Stadium.

Enzo Maresca wants to bring Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City

Chelsea signed Fernandez from Portuguese outfit Benfica in 2023, and he has since played 168 games for the Blues.

A number of those outings came under Maresca, who, it is now reported, wants to sign him for the Manchester outfit.

The pair are said to have a ‘very trusting relationship’, and talks are already understood to have taken place.

As journalist Florian Plettenberg explained on X/Twitter: “Enzo Fernandez is one of Manchester City’s desired transfer targets for the summer. Strongly wanted by Enzo Maresca.

Enzo Maresca has already highlighted Enzo Fernandez’s qualities

Man City may need a new midfielder in the summer once experienced talent Bernardo Silva leaves on a free transfer.

Silva is one of the longest-serving members of the current City team, and losing such a key figure would be a blow.

However, speaking back in February 2025, Maresca was quick to heap praise on Fernandez for his leadership ability.

He said: “He [Fernandez] behaved as a leader and he is doing top, fantastic.

“For sure Enzo has taken a step forward in that sense. He is showing how good a leader he is, how good he is on the ball, how good he is off the ball and we are delighted with him.”

Now 25, Fernandez should be coming into the prime years of his career and could be the ideal long-term replacement for Silva.

But it remains to be seen how much the South American will cost, given the huge fee Chelsea initially paid for his services.
