Aston Villa have now won a first major trophy in 30 years after defeating Freiburg 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League final.
Goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendia and Morgan Rogers saw Unai Emery win his fifth UEFA Europa League title – having previously lifted three with Sevilla and another at Villarreal.
Not only does the victory secure Aston Villa a first European title since 1982 – but millions of pounds in prize money is also heading to Villa Park.
Aston Villa handed £10.95m for beating Freiburg
That 3-0 win in Istanbul alone has banked Aston Villa a sum of £10.95m in prize money.
The Villans had already banked millions of pounds from the UEFA Europa League even just by reaching the final.
Each win in the league phase was worth £379,201. Aston Villa – who want Ander Barrenetxea – won seven out of eight games at that stage, securing £2.65m in prize money.
A further £1.47m was won after reaching the Round of 16 stage, before sums of £2.11m and £3.54m followed on the way to booking a spot in the final.
You can see the total amounts of prize money throughout the UEFA Europa League below.
- Winner: €13m (£10.95m)
- Runner-up: €7m (£5.90m)
- Semi-finalists: €4.2m (£3.54m)
- Quarter-finalists: €2.5m (£2.11m)
- Round of 16: €1.75m (£1.47m)
- Reaching knockout round play-off: €300,000 (£252,800)
- League-phase wins: €450,000 (£379,201)
- League-phase draws: €150,000 (£126,400)

So, overall, Aston Villa earned £20.72m in prize money from this season’s edition of the UEFA Europa League.
That is purely based on performances – with additional financial benefits expected to come through broadcaster payments from the likes of TNT Sports.
Aston Villa experienced some problems with PSR last summer – which is largely why Jacob Ramsey was sold to Newcastle for £43m – so the added cash made from winning the UEFA Europa League is sure to come as a welcome boost to those in the boardroom at Villa Park.
Ultimately, fans will just be happy to have finally seen their beloved Aston Villa win a trophy – it has certainly been a long time coming for a club of this stature.
