TBR Football understands that Ruben Amorim has the backing of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but the Manchester United co-owner now wants to see progression.
Amorim will hope he has steadied the ship at Old Trafford after a difficult start to the season, with United’s 2-1 victory against Chelsea last time out easing some of the pressure.
But there remain questions over the suitability of his tactics and whether he will be able to win silverware despite Ineos splashing around £200million on signings during the summer.
Ratcliffe flew in for scheduled talks with Ruben Amorim last week, and the United head coach declared he had been given the businessman’s support.

Exclusive: Jim Ratcliffe is fully behind Ruben Amorim
Sources have told TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, that the meeting between Jim Ratcliffe and Amorim was positive, but focused on how the club can move forward.
Bailey said: “They’re happy with what’s happened over the summer – the players brought in, the system he’s implementing — and the main focus is seeing progress on the field.
“And we are already seeing it: they’re a much better team than when he first took over, though admittedly they couldn’t have been much worse.”
Crucially, the rest of the Manchester United hierarchy also look to have thrown their weight behind Amorim, including director of football Jason Wilcox, despite his turbulent first year in charge.
Bailey added: “The club is backing Amorim. Jason Wilcox has fully bought into his approach, and the squad is being shaped in Amorim’s image. There’s little point in cancelling the experiment now — that would set the club back even further.”
However, TBR Football understands that Ratcliffe and his lieutenants are notably unhappy with the number of leaks around players voicing their frustration with Amorim’s system.

Ruben Amorim’s next Man United fixtures
After leading United to a 15th-placed finish in the Premier League last season, Amorim will be targeting some form of European football in his first full campaign in charge.
The victory against Chelsea came at the ideal time, but tough tests are coming thick and fast.
The upcoming trip to Brentford will be another test of their mettle, while they will be expected to pick up all three points at the expense of Sunderland, regardless of their strong start.
Amorim will then be given breathing space during the international break, before his players return and prepare to take on Liverpool at Anfield, a formidable prospect for any team trying to find their feet.
