‘How he’s developed’: Theo Walcott makes big claim about Leeds star Kalvin Phillips
Theo Walcott has made the big claim that Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips is one of the first names on the England team sheet after his latest display at Euro 2020.
Three Lions supporters are likely still partying after a 2-0 win over Germany on Tuesday. Therefore, they can now prepare for the Euros quarter-finals against Ukraine this Saturday night.
There were a few nervous moments at Wembley Stadium, but overall it was a well deserved victory for an England side that is growing in belief under manager Gareth Southgate.
25-year-old Phillips has been a key component in the team’s success.
ANTONIO CONTE WILL BE A SPURS DISASTER.
The Leeds-born defensive midfielder has played every minute of England’s tournament until now, so can take huge pride from the fact they are yet to concede a goal.
He’s shown the same kind of energy and defensive intelligence for England that he does at Elland Road. In addition, he’s bursts forward into attack at times and uses the ball effectively.
Former England international Walcott has praised the Leeds midfield maestro:
“What I like is the confidence flowing through the whole team. You look at Kalvin Phillips, he was in the Championship the year before and seeing how he’s developed into one of the first names on the team sheet,” Walcott said.
Phillips rise at Euro 2020 should make Leeds even more attractive
Phillips deserves so much praise for his improvement over the last few years. But, he’d surely be the first to admit it wouldn’t have happened without Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa.
Phillips is now a regular England starter, which is something that would’ve been unimaginable a few years ago when he was trying to become a nailed-on figure in the Leeds XI.
His success shows that Elland Road is the place to be.
If Phillips can reach the dizzy heights he has, surely others will want to follow his path.
It’s clear the current Leeds model is working a treat.
