TBR Football can exclusively confirm what Chelsea targets Jamie Gittens and Mike Maignan now think about their chances of joining the Blues later this year.

Chelsea tried to wrap up the signings of both Jamie Gittens and Mike Maignan before the pre-Club World Cup transfer deadline at 7pm on Tuesday.

However, the Blues didn’t manage to get either deal over the line, and both players will now stay put at Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan respectively for the time being.

TBR Football can also reveal what both players think about having missed out on a move before the Club World Cup, and what Chelsea think of both players.

Jamie Gittens and Mike Maignan still confident of Chelsea move

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that both Gittens and Maignan have been left frustrated over the failure to seal a move before the pre-CWC deadline.

However, we understand both players still want to move to Stamford Bridge this summer, and they are confident that they will do so – especially Gittens.

Chelsea like them both – we understand that the Blues were impressed during the talks with them and in agreeing personal terms.

TBR Football understands that Chelsea talks over both Gittens and Maignan will continue ahead of the transfer window reopening on Monday 16 June.

Gittens is keen on returning to the Premier League and, as a player who has been deemed “magic” like Joe Cole, it will be exciting to see how he fares.

Whether Jamie Gittens and Mike Maignan could still play for Chelsea at the Club World Cup

Gittens and Maignan have missed out on the opportunity to represent Chelsea in the group stages of the Club World Cup.

Should Chelsea be able to sign both players at the second opening of the summer transfer window, only one will be able to play in the latter stages of the tournament.

Gittens has been named in Dortmund’s Club World Cup squad, and players are not able to represent two different teams at the tournament.

This means he would not be able to represent Chelsea even if he does move from Dortmund while the Blues are still in the competition.

Had Dortmund omitted Gittens from their Club World Cup squad, Chelsea would have been able to register him after the group stages.

However, AC Milan are not in the Club World Cup, so Chelsea would be able to register Maignan after the group stages.
