Celtic have been told that they can’t risk Cameron Carter-Vickers in today’s Scottish Premiership fixtures against Kilmarnock today.
Brendan Rodgers subbed the American defender at half-time against Hibs on Wednesday night after he felt his hamstring tighten up in the 4-1 win against the Edinburgh side.
And whilst the Celtic manager believes he could be fit enough to face Derek McInnes’ side at lunchtime, Peter Grant has told Rodgers that he can’t risk him with so many huge games coming up.
Grant said [The Go Radio Football Show], “Carter-Vickers not playing would be a blow. But it’s an interesting one because it’s on that surface.
“The change of surface doesn’t help when you’re going from grass to astro. And that’s something that Brendan and Carter-Vickers [will discuss] as you really wouldn’t want to lose him for a period of time because he’s too important.
“No matter who you’re playing next he’s too important to the group.”
Brendan Rodgers’ injury update on Cameron Carter-Vickers
The Celtic manager said this week that if he was fit, Carter-Vickers could play against Kilmarnock this afternoon.

At the pre-match press conference, Rodgers said [Football Scotland], “We’ll assess Cam over the next couple of days. He didn’t pull his hamstring but we just had an MRI scan on that to make sure he’s OK. We’ll await the results of that.”
Rodgers was then asked if there was a chance he could feature this weekend and he replied, “Well, if the scan shows nothing, then clearly.”
With the final Champions League fixture against Feyenoord approaching, Grant is correct. Carter-Vickers should be kept wrapped up in cotton wool as he will be needed if the Hoops are to pick up a long awaited victory in Europe’s top competition.
Celtic also have the big Glasgow Derby coming up on the 30th of December and if they have designs on taking all three points and piling the pressure onto Rangers for the league title race, the 25-year-old will be so crucial for that.
